What is your policy on tipping wait staff?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When a fella comes in that I know is the owner of the biggest chain of car dealerships in our area, and doesn't leave a tip after I've hand and footed for 2hrs and had to neglect my other tables to keep his table happy, I don't want to waste my time with it....

Sorry guys...That's my reality.

As a bartender, you don't really have much of a choice whether to wait on someone or not if they sit down at your bar, so I understand..

I wasn't into waiting tables for fun, though...I was in it for the money $$$. It wasn't fun at all, and I didn't really enjoy it. I still put on that sweet baby face smile though, and the cougars loved me. They were always the best tippers. :cool-1:

I would really like to agree with you on this one Piscine but I just can't . As a former server myself, I was being paid for a service. A tip was extra! As a bartender, I was usually so busy making drinks that I didn't notice until the end of the night what my tip jar looked like. As a waiter, I provided excellent service no matter what the tip was....you never get a second chance at a first impression. I also take into consideration the economy that we are in that most are struggling right now just to pay their bills. Taking thier family out to eat is a treat, not an everyday thing so a huge tip isn't always in the budget.

I think in this situation you just have to leave it to personal preference. Some people tip, some people don't...bottom line it is optional.

If we had more people like you in the food industry, servers wouldn't get such a bad rep :)

the power is in your feet, you don't like the pay, walk out and find better job

see what i did there?

lmao I don't work in food service anymore. I have a much better job now...but even when I was, I always made sure the pay was good. :)

Besides, it seems like all of the people who hate tipping still do it, so there would be no need for all of that using your logic.

Actually, as a bartender you do have the right to refuse service to anyone, look at the multiple signs posted behind most bars.(Sorry I know it isn't exactly related to this thread but I couldn't help myself!!)

i meant that in general, not to you directly. but you already did that and found a better job

i'm not a big tipper, but i do tip. sometimes i'll tip a couple bucks just because that's all i got on me
