N. American Apex Tank

This tank is completely hypothetical, however. I am designing my biggest tank project, under the circumstance that money is no objection. I would like m ultimate tank to be dedicated to the Escolidae family from north America. What (in your opinion) is the minimum tank size to house a full sized(say 77") E. Masqinongy. I want to attempt to happily house the fish of 10,000 casts. alongside E. Lucius. And E. Niger. I don't think I could get away with E. Americanus. All hypothetical. Go!

You're going to need one heck of an aquarium in order to house a few full-size members of the Esocidae family. You'll probably only be able to pull off a muskellunge (Esox masquinongy) and a northern pike (Esox lucius) because many, if not all, of the other species don't get quite big enough to be completely off the menu of the big one.

When I initially thought this up, the intention was on a 5000 gallon minimum! I just wonder how much room these mammoths would take up.. or how territorial they are in aquaria. there are few people who have these properly housed in aquaria...so not much information there. In the wild, theres ONE muskie to every 3-10 acres of water. Insanity.. I just wonder what everyones opinion on this topic was. Some people put these fish on a pedestal due to their rarity in the wild. Amazing fish.

I'm pretty sure that many Cabela's stores and Bass Pro stores have multiple Esox in a single aquarium, so they should be fine to house together if given ample space if those aquariums are taken as a successful example.

I did know that. but those aquariums are typically massive, the one nearest me is a 22,000 gallon with much more than just apex level esox. Theyve got panfish and bass, cats...you know everything native to the region like bps likes to do. At that size, they pull it off, but I can guarantee I wont be putting 6" fish in with the Muskie. haha

Okay, so your planned aquarium will be a little under 1/4 the size of that one, so you should be fine for an Esox or two plus some other fishes (large catfish, etc.). Filtration is going to be pretty crazy, too, so get ready for making a big custom filter or forking over a chunk of money to buy one.

No joke! And 5000 isnt necessarily the plan, its just the bare minimum for the idea. If I can go bigger i will =) and customizing is my thing. I find building something yourself makes you feel better about it. and this tank would be beyond any grounds of the almighty fX5 anyway. haha it would all be about converting a pool filter for aquarium use. I would have to learn quite a bit from some of the more famous MFK members, like TK_LM. good thing is I would save a bundle on heating. Thank you natives..
