The beginning of the end? Raykeepers nightmare.

sorry to hear of your troubles al.i know from experience it is very stressful.my personal advice would be the salt and lotsa clean water. overreacting solves nothing (also my experience as i tend to overreact).keep it simple and only medicate if you have knowledge as to the exact problem. wishing you the best..fingers and toes crossed for you.:(

btw.on my 1200g i run 2 57-watt aquaultraviolets..on my 1000g i run no uv. never had any real problems with either tank so i am not honestly sure of any benefit..

great advice from clearwaterguy and aquaman. salt and waterchanges, the kiss method.

i use a 57 watt aqua uv on my 450 gal

this is what i have been saying the whole time, the very best and pretty much the only approach one should ever take if he has no idea whats going on

I should have just sent them all to you when I had the chance. They would have been much happier never being subjected to this.

Anyone have any input on the thought of an underlying problem? Say I nurse them back to eating again through salt, temp, blackworms, and pristine water? Did I solve anything or did I just put another "good for a year or 2" band aid on the real problem? Maybe the real problem has no cure and all we can do is provide good enough care to let them kick off when they decide it's time? Maybe there is something out there that could get rid of this crap? No one seems to want to speculate on this.

Makes you wonder what would happen if someone took all thier dead rays to someone in the biology field. Would love to hear them say "Ah, crappy water and stress killed them".

Just cause we don't know the answer to the problem doesn't mean there isn't one.

IF I develop cancer I would fight that crap kicking and screaming. Give me the kimo and all the experimental drugs you got and lets learn something. I don't want to go somewhere nice and live out the rest of my days without a fight.

IF I was a ray I'd want the same.

Maybe this ordeal has made me crazy and there isn't any kind of underlying problem, BUT what if there is?

Glad aquaman chipped in, I think you are in safe hands there. The tremazol sounds like a good bet too, i would add more as it seemed the cure for T1. For the future add a uv. I love the tmc equipment we get over here. Obviously water isn't the issue with the drip and those params so thanks for ruling out...it disproves a theory at least.

I hope these pull through.

I think things like this DO linger around under the radar for long periods of time...it's beent hat way since the start of time and when there is prper conditions such as a stress factor that lowers immunity, the balance is thrown off of good/bad bacteria or the immune system is unable to keep a virus surpressed...

I mentioned Ick-like organisms because I am awre that rays don't show visible signs of Ich, but they still may be affected by it or a similar organism that is also unaffected by Prazi.

I believe that the UV sterilizer is the best idea for the future. Be sure to reference flow-rates and use one that is capable of full sterilization at the flow rate you need. You may need to make a separate return loop off the main return to slow the flow. You only need to pass it through there once per hour flow rate or less...but it needs LOTS of dwell time on each pass.

Alan.
Take a good look at the rays breathing pattern, are both spiracles working simultaneously? look at the ray from the front, does the head look symmetrical when staring the ray in the face?are the gill repetitions normal or is there a blip or hiccup after so many reps, when one of the spiracles isn't functioning then the head will appear lopsided. If this is the case then it will most likely be a gill fluke and like Toby mentioned tremazol is a safe and effective cure but a large water change of 80% 6 hours after treatment is required so you will have to turn the drip off to give the treatment time to work at full strength. This treatment should be repeated 7 days later to ensure the life cycle of the parasite is halted.
Check this out and let us know if you see any of these symptoms,if not then i would go with my original plan.
Fingers crossed for you!
Take it easy !

Richard.

Tremazol is hard to get here. I have found some, but not enough (200 ml). Like Binox the bigger bottles seem to have "disappeared" from shelfs. Can buy thier smaller more expensive counterpart all day long, but no bulk. I found 8 25ml bottles and that's about it.

Gonna take a few vids tonight. Gonna have to mess around with weighing some salt to figure out exactly what measurements were. Was thinking the solar salt was 1 3/4 cup = 1LB. I remember people in the past using salt at ppt? or ppm? measured with a swimming pool test kit. Anyone remember this?

Richard, what do you use for UVs?

1 whole 40lb solar salt bag per 1000g... and I just weighed and verified your measurement of 1.75 cup per lb.
