The beginning of the end? Raykeepers nightmare.

DB,

I left you a PM and posted a ways back on bacterial infecctions and my similar experience with rays and Discus. There is no mention or recognition of my postings or a reply to my PM. Use Metronidiazole - that's what I used and it worked. I think you have a bacterial infection form either the discus or the new rays. That is the primary infection that weakens the ray. Then they get secondary infections from things they normally can fight off. Treating for the secondary infection or giving pristine water conditions will not cure the bacterial problem. UV will not cure it if it is internal. I may be new to MFK, but I've been keeping rays since 2008.

I apologize for that. You deserve credit as I think you're on the right track. I believe you are correct about the bacterial infection. However I have already been informed that the disease that is normally cured by Metro is becoming immune to it.

I ordered meds the day after this thread started.

Someone PM'd me shortly after this thread was started and gave me some absolutely priceless advice. Let's hope it works.

There WILL be something learned from this thread, not just about rays being sick but about people helping eachother.

Another option instead of a lab doing tests is a local vet. Some calling around to see who is willing and or can work with you might get results.

Where have you been ordering the meds from? Jehmco has a real good selection of hard-to-find meds and they ship really fast...

No speculation on whatever the hell that thing is that came out of my female?

Guess maybe I need to look for answers elsewhere..... :(

Ive had poop from the hystrix look like that, but it was a bit darker, their on nightcrawlers and i think they were in dirt not bedding...

When you found that in the tank, did it look like it had an air bubble in it or had a slight boiency (spelling) to it?
Mine seem to sorta stand upright along the bottom if that makes sense Al

it either has to be poop or miscarriage...right? when i feed pellets i see poop that looks kinda like that.

Really don't think it's poo. Poop doesn't have a casing. Must be another miscarriage. Didn't know if it was possible to be some kind of swollen worm of some kind.
