hey guys, I just bought a used magnum 350 filter from an auction today. I am using it to spot clean my salt water tank.

Anyways, the filter is pulling in a HUGE amount of air into the filter from somewhere and I can't figure out where. I have had one of these filters in the past so I know the ins and outs of it but I have never had this problem before. I have checked all the hoses, o-ring, clamps etc but I don't know what the problem is.

Has anyone ever ran into this problem before? Any ideas of what it could be or where to start?

I was so PO'ed today that I almost just siliconed the lid onto the thing.

Idk if it's worth the trouble I hate mag350 I had 2 that never worked properly and one was getting air in and could never find where

Bad o-ring. Use gasket lube and see if that stops the leak. I keep an extra one around for the mag350 i have on my turtle tank, the aftermarket seals seem to work best.

brich999 - after today I am starting to agree

zoohouse - where do you get your aftermarket seals? are you talking about automotive gasket lube or is there a specific aquarium safe gasket lube?

thanks for the replies

you can get an o ring sealant (lube) at any pool store...I had to use it on my Ocean Clear canisters, worked great

cool thanks. when I read his post I was thinking more of a gasket maker for engines which didn't at all make sense to me because I figured it would pollute the water. I didn't know there was an O-ring sealer specifially for filters.

I have 3 Magnum 350s. I've had to 'mess' with them all to get them right. I'd recommend new o-rings as previously mentioned. You can get them on Amazon (they ship FAST) and you can also order the lube there too. When you install the o-ring on the top, don't push it all the way up. Leave it in the middle and as you push the top onto the canister it will find it's way to the 'right' spot.

Not my favorite filter, but they're not terrible either.
