Deaf Woman Hears herself for the first time

I'm a little confused how is it she speaks clear English? From what I know you have to hear yourself to 'tone' your speech

I hear that deaf people can take speech therapy, that could be why she can speak. Saw the vid earlier, it's pretty great :)
 
Anybody know what people who are born deaf hear in their mind when thinking?

no, think about it what you're saying. someone who is hard of hearing (in otherwords, not completely deaf) can take speech therapy but someone who was born deaf cannot. it'd be impossible for you to know what vowels, consonants etc sound like and therefor would not be able to practice it.

i just read a quote from her youtube account where she in a round about way admits she wasn't completely deaf

I had an implant put in 8 weeks ago called The Esteem Implant by Envoy Medical. I was born deaf and have worn hearing aids from the age of 2, but hearing aids only help so much. I have gotten by this long in life by reading lips. This was taken as they were activating the implant.

good call out. i just logged in and hit dislike too. she admits to wearing a hearing aide in the past. they dont' give deaf people hearing aides so she's heard herself before
 
very touching no matter what the situation was. good call for the people out there who made it happen.
