For a nice stretch I was really active on this site, learning and sharing knowledge and really enjoying the hobby from a freshwater standpoint. As money got tight over the summer I ended up selling my delhezi and palmas to a friend and was continually downstocking. Around August the money came back and my gf had really wanted me to get a bigger saltwater tank. Well eventually the blahblahblahblah got to me and I caved in, sold my 75 fresh and picked up a really nice deal on a 46 bow salt. Long story short, I miss my freshwater fish now that we're a couple months down the road. The good thing is the guy I sold my polypterus and angelfish too is a knowledgable hobbiest and they're all happy and healthy and I get lots of photo updates on them.

Now to the point of this rant, If you really like your freshwater fish and are considering switching to salt, really really think about what you're doing. Saltwater has its ups but all the same really try to decide what you will prefer. I'm selling my live rock protein skimmer inverts and livestock from the 46 and bringing it back to freshwater and will most likely become active on this site again. Sorry for the big vent but just really want to make people think about their freshwater tanks, which in my opinion now that i've seen it from both sides, are just as beautiful if not more beautiful than salt.

Welcome back! Have you thought of having the best of both worlds? I personally like them both.

Oops CLOWNKNIFE beat me to it lol :)

Dude I started working at a fish store to get a better knowledge of saltwater so I could go to the dark side. In short I am staying freshwater. The salt water crew just not for me.
I am upgrading my house so I can support my addiction. I am moving my 75 gallon to a 150 gallon tank for my oscar and maybe two others, my 45 gallon planted is turning into a 55 gallon planted with a blue azur, cherry barbs, and corys, my ten planted is turning into a 20 long planted.
In short I am excited. My GF is totally down with it all too. Shes picking locations for my tanks which is kinda awesome.
Had to put my two cents in and this will be post 200.

nice jlenn :P

as to clown and shadow im way ahead of ya, im keeping my 10gallon salt up and running so the gf is happy with her little 'nemos' and its slam full of coral lol, basically in a small apartment room having a big fresh and salt tank isnt an option and im just as happy with the little 10 as the 46 being salt, honestly that 46 will turn back in to a 75 before she knows it but we'll keep that on the down low for now... ;)

I've been frequenting a local SW fish club forum for the good deals on equipment. Everytime I tell someone there I keep FW they act like it's a "beginners" hobby that will inevitably lead to SW. They ask "so when are you going to switch?"

I have absolutely no desire to do so.

I used to keep both types of aquariums at the same time but I'm not running any salt currently and I dont think I will be for quite some time...I got tired of the water changes with the salt tanks, every time a water change was done it was like pouring money down the drain.

Why switch? Just have both freshwater and saltwater tanks :)

Yeah, I never got why it has to be one of the other. Right now, I just have a single native tank, but I want to do a planted and reef. The reef will probably be last, as the cost just seems a lot greater, but I will eventually do one. I would love a 90 gallon corner reef tank.

why its gotta be one or the other on a big tank of each right now, space time and money haha.

yeah clockwork that was another factor that got me in the salt, forum i go on locally that really has a lot of good deals and great info about saltwater fishkeeping, just kinda got sucked in to it without really thinking it through. but like i said i can rest easy at least knowing the fish from the 75 are all happy and healthy in their new owners tanks
