Would love some tips such as maximum size, country of origin, care, and sexing. My LFS may have a pair and despite the price, i may be tempted to purchase them and try breeding. But would love some expert opinion/advice first. Thanks guys! :nilly:

HI,

very aggressive to all channids, especially their own species.
gets avround 25cm in length.
Has not been bred yet in captivity.
Comes from the Bhutan foothills, high altitude fish that really really NEED COLD water 15 to 20 °C !!!
They do search for eyh others and then they fight the **** outta them. If you keep more than one, normally alll fins are ripped.
Even in big tanks !

I wouldnt b such a fish if I lived in Singapore, to much work cooling the water.

these fish much prefer cold water, 15-20C as brucki said is optimal, the bhutan footlills can drop in temperature to 5C in the water so they like it very cool. i don't know if you can get the water temperature that low but if you can't i'd suggest against purchasing them.

you can keep them in groups but i found that if the group decides to reject one of the channa, they will kill him/her if you don't seperate them. i currently keep 2 true blues and a stewartii cf barca together with little fighting. also, just a side note, in the summer when my tank temperatures reached 22C i noticed a lot more aggression. I think warmer temperatures stimuate aggression in them.

as for sexing, if you look at my pics i noticed one of my true blues has a much more blunt nose as opposted to the more slender streamlike snouts of the other 2, im lead to believe that i have 1 male and 2 females or 2 males and 1 female. Im not sure to how to sex them and i don't know if anyone does seeing as they've yet to be bred in captivity

Thanks guys! The temperature issue has helped me make up my mind. Definitely won't be getting them!
