any recommendations on a good air pump? or is the 150 tetra 300 good enough?

For the purpose you are using it for it doesn't make a different what type of aerator you use. It's simply to stir up the water in the w/d to disturb the surface of the water and suck 02 into the water thus adding extra oxygen to your water so any aerator will do fine. I used to run a 30g custom drawer w/d under my 125g and I always had a aerator in my w/d as well since without it I would get a layer of protein buildup at the top of the sump water after a couple weeks. Heed the bubbles being sucked up by the pump warning that someone has already mentioned. You really don't even need an air stone for what you are trying to do. Just a simple tube running from an aerator rigged against a wall in the sump, submerged in the water, and away from the pump would create enough disturbance to the top of the water to get the effect you are looking for.

so i should just get a air pump and stick the tube inside my sump away from the pump?
