EBJD parasites, treat whole tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like you guys forgot about the sick fishy, any further bickering can be handled through pm's. Can we get back to advise please. I'm a novice with sickness advise, so I will bow out now. Everybody be happy!

Wow, didn't expect a debate, but thanks for everyone who is trying to help. I transferred him to a new 10 gallon with a HOB filter, a heater, and a cave from the old tank (is that bad?), and added some Prime and a tablet of JPC. He was breathing kind of fast, hopefully just from the move, but otherwise looked okay, no color changes or bloating. I'll see if he'll eat tomorrow and maybe I'll post a pic....if he's still alive.

Make sure to keep an eye on the fish in your main tank as well, one of the ways that these intestinal flagellates can be transmitted in an aquarium is through a sick fishes feces. Hopefully your EBJD bounces back in a few days.

Good for sure looks like your doing the right things just close observations for the next 10 - 15 days..

And like I said you can get him back..good luck.

Ok, here's the update. Today is Saturday, he hasn't eaten since maybe Monday. I put him in the hospital tank on Wednesday, so I gave him the second dose of JPC and a 25% water change last night. He still looks normal, except for maybe breathing a bit fast. But he won't eat!! I tried small pellets, big pellets, and freeze-dried bloodworms, but he's not interested. He mostly hides in the clay pot but sometimes he'll go to the other side of the tank....

Check the ammonia and nitrite levels of the quarantine tank just to be sure he is not breathing heavy due to these reasons. Do you notice anything more than the stringy poo? Stringy poo is indicative of many different issues. The advice given so far is excellent general advice. However, if the fish continues not to respond, there may be something more serious causing the problem.

Refusing to eat & being reclusive could simply boil down to your fish being stressed from the recent move to his much smaller qt tank.
