I have a blog on aquariums now and I want to take pictures of the fish for it but... Mine just wont cut the mustard. Even if the fish is lying motionless right against the glass its still blurry as hell >.< Anyone have any suggestions on a camera that can handle this task thats at a decent price? I always see such clear, nice pics of fish but I can never seem to get them very clear. I assume because my camera is inferior...

Could also be just due to how you light your aquarium for the shots...

I would check out the aquatic photography forum, i think its a sister site to MFK

http://www.aquatic-photography.com/

They would probably be able to give you much better answers and probably quicker answers than here...

you can get a quality dlsr thats a bit older model for cheaper then the new ones.
the cameras cost a lot money but whats costs even more and adds up are all the
different type of lenses and etc etc... if i were you i'd wait for black friday if you
can wait if not look into a older model dlsr from nikon, cannon & etc. those are
the quality camera company's that actually make cameras worth the price. also
remember that the camera isnt the only thing that affects a good quality picture.
shading, lights, angle & etc all come into game when taking quality pics. as for
a quality dlsr camera on the cheaper side i recommend the canon eos rebel
older or new model or the nikon d3000 which cheaper then most if not all
quuality dlsr's and isnt too shabby either especially for that price for a dlsr...

Yea not just the camera man. Although DSLR's help :)
I have got a Cannon 7D.
It can take some pretty crappy shots if you dont play with it, aperture, shutter speed and iso wise.
All these settings can be pretty tricky to get your head around. A lot of the really good shots you see also use slave flashes etc.
All depends on how much your willing to spend.

It's not even about the money. I've got thousands tied up in my DSLR and I can go back to my old Olympus D4000 and compare quality. If you really want to get into DSLRs and start learning, pick up an older Canon XS and a 50mm 1.8 lens (or 1.4 if you have extra $). You'll be amazed at what a couple hundred bucks can do. :)

can you manually bump up the iso on your camera? sounds like a shutter speed thats too slow. also try "squeezing" the shutter release button rather than pushing it. that'll help . you can also use your flash if you shoot at the glass at an angle and not straight on so it wont reflect. practice makes perfect!

Just to add, you can find some amazing deals on cameras on craigslist usually. I see REALLY expensive DSLRs going for a few hundred bucks here.

I've got a Pentax Optio W90, and it takes pretty decent pictures for the cost (~$275). Sure, it's just a point-and-shoot camera, but it's also ruggedized and waterproof, so it's pretty good for in-tank pictures and videos. I'm pretty happy with it since because it had the features that I wanted while not costing a pretty penny. Sure, it's not a super-nice DSLR camera, but it does pretty good for the price.

The best camera for the money will be a DSLR, no question. For the price you can buy these things used, it makes no sense to buy a POS P&S for almost the same price.
