55 gallon tank with oscar and green terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As said Oscars grow quick i would say get the biggest tank you can now as it makes it easier in the long run if you go for the 75g i would get the Oscar and get some diddler fish.

Good Luck.

Thanks Darren.

if you're talking about buying a tank, definately get the largest tank you can afford right now.
There are definately some deals out there if you have a little bit of time and check out places like craigslist. a lot of people will say that a 75 is the minimum for an O for life, but i think a 90 would be better.
Good luck.

ok like others said the tank must be a 75 or bigger foran oscar. Like many others on here we started with oscars and soon found out they just arent worth it. You will have a very hard time getting rid of it when you wanna try something new or it gets too big. A salvini, trimac, midas and others in the species are great.

Why not just do the gt in there with some dithers and skip the Oscar?

That would be a cool tank, and gts are so much cooler than oscars anyway.

If you want a wet pet that will always interact with you that you could trade away if you ever wanted to down the road, I'd get a flowerhorn, midas, or trimac :headbang2

I had an oscar and 2 GT's in a 40G for about 6 months. When the O got around 6" traded it for a pair of convicts and a pleco. U can keep O's and and GT's in a 55g just keep in mind that at some point u'll have to get rid of smth.

^^TERRIBLE advice for someone apparently new to the hobby or to the gluttonous & messy oscar.

...and I know people that drink 2 fifths of liquor a night, take back pain pills and eat fast food 3x a day and they seem fine.

Just because you can doesnt mean you should.

OP, get only what you have the room for now, not whatever X amount of gallons tank youll have down the road .

I agree with what VRWC said to a point. Depending on how committed you are to upgrading within 6 months, you can start the Oscar in a 55, you just have to have the means to upgrade the tank in less than a year. A lot of this comes with your age. If you're someone living at your parents house with no income and needing parental approval, odds are there are other factors that will weigh in on this decision. If you're a adult with your own place, your own finances, and you are mature enough to handle the responsibility knowing that you'll need a larger tank soon then starting in the 55 is fine.
For a lot of people that are new to the hobby a 55 gallon tank seems huge, and it is for guppies and tetras, but when you start keeping monsters a 55 is small.
