Geoghagus gottwaldi Orinoco

If that is indeed of pic of the actual species I wonder how many of these may have been confused with Geophagus proximus? If you would have posted that pic asking for an ID, I would have said proximus without question (massive midlateral spot, pre-opercular mark etc..)

I'm pretty sure that pic is of Proximus. I've seen it before, just can't recall where.
I believe this is actually Gottwaldi. It looks exactly like the one on Cichlidae. Very attractive fish none the less. Looking forward to seeing them when you get them in Ian ;)

Interesting. So this species has the infraorbital stripe of G. taeniopareius the midlateral spot of a G. winemilleri/abalios and the caudal spangling of a G. altifrons? Can you post a link to what you guys have found on it so far? I just checked Weidners book and there is no mention of this species in there either and I would love to read up on it. That is one sexy fish, I'm also am looking forward to what your bringing in Ian it sounds very interesting! :popcorn:
 
Based on the picture that IanTOT posted, they aren't gottwaldi. Gottwaldi have a complete stripe under the eye; the one in the picture does not.
 
The pic came from american cichlids I was looking for more info on them and they sent me this pic. The fish are coming from Oliver at below water going to american cichlids then to me.
 
If they are from Oliver, they are probably correctly identified. He usually knows what he's talking about. Still, Dan-Ye will probably send you an actual picture of the fish if you ask, especially considering their price. I emailed her a few days ago about some fish that she currently has in stock from Oliver and she was able to take a pic.

When are you having them shipped to you? Are you picking them up at the airport? If I can scrape together some money, I may want to order a few fish from her and we could split the shipping. PM me. :)
