Are my convicts going to breed?

Hello, the past month of so i've noticed one of my convicts has grown a lot bigger and a lump has appeared on its head (so this is my male) and the other one is the smaller female with the orange patch. They used to chase eachother around but recently they've made friends and been hanging around one another, actually both of them were fending off a jd like a team. This sounds so me like theyre going to lay eggs etc, but when? How long will this take as my current small tank is being used to grow out a rtc so i cant keep them safe in there... is there any way to tell if the female is going to lay eggs? and how often do they lay eggs? cheers guys i hope you can help :)
 
I have bred my pair, at the most, three times in one month..........Just place a flowering clay pot in the tank and whatch them lay in it.........ALways have a spare 20-55g tank available....These fish breed and breed some more.........Once the eggs are hatched, siphon the fry into the spare tank............AFter 5-7 days the fry will be swimmming, feed the fry baby brine shrimp.........
 
Ok, thanks, do you think it sounds like my convicts are going to breed? do they just automatically breed it theyre opposite sex, like guppies? haha

I just have convicts for the hell of it. I dont even know half of the time when they breed. If i want them to breed I usually crank the heater to 84-85 and they literally automatically breed. My community 55 gallon of convicts has about 5 pairs. They are swingers. They'll breed with each others different partners. Once had a pair kill of my juvie flowerhorn even though he was bigger. Its just a matter of time before they breed.
 
I have also discovered in my time of raising convicts. They are by far the best parent fish I have ever had. Hatching and survival rate is very high with almost minimal care.
 
thanks for the feedback. I may put them in a 45 litre storage box which my spotted gar and rtc are in to grow a little bigger until they go in to my main tank, so when theyre in the main tank ill put the convicts in that and turn the temp up and see what happens :D!

are the convicts seperated or rare they in a community tank ? in my exp breeding them as soon as i seperated a pair out of a community tank they laid eggs.
 
All they need is a gallon of water, and they will breed. There's no stopping them :)
If you like them, DO NOT put them in a tank with a RTC!
