  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I cant remember though im pretty sure its polyester either way ive used it for the past 2 years its a great water polisher

Thank you very much, is there the same kind of thing (sponge) which you can use for mechanical filtration too? I would order some but im out of money.
Ebay is your friend when it comes to rolls of filter floss. Massive rolls for about £10-£20 but you shouldn't need more for at least a year or two. I think at the £20 mark its something like 10-15m worth. Cheaper in the pond section in ebay, 50m for £30 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pond-filt...eatures_UK&hash=item2550f5d7a1#ht_2225wt_1069.

i use pillow stuffing, i buy a 5 pound box of polyester fiber fill for about 17bucks, will last for at least half a year.

i stuff it in my overflow and change it about every 2 or 3 water changes.

For the mechanical, not on ebay. The cheapest thing on ebay that I would trust in my tank would be the pond filter sponge sheets or the 2" thick stuff in the aquarium section. The other foams/sponges available are all classed as simply fire retardant so I do not know what chemicals are applied or if they leach when exposed to water. Not something I would trust myself. I'm not risking my stock to save a few bob.
The cheapest sponge is 3 sheets (fine/med/coarse) of reticulated sponge and it is only about an inch thick. I prefer the fine 2" thick sponge but you only get one sheet for the same price as the 3 pack of thinner reticulated stuff.

One thing you do have to watch is the thickness. The fine floss often comes as 2" thick sheets but it is more expensive than the thinner stuff obviously. However, you will use more of the thinner stuff than the 2" thick floss. Buying the thinner, cheaper floss could be a false economy. Just something to consider.
