They spawned a second time and the next day I noticed the fry were gone, and the female was dead and beaten pretty badly over night. They seemed to be fine, and from what I have read, HRP pairs have strong bonds and this never happens.
Anyone else have this happen?

I've noticed in my Rio Danli strain that males can get pretty nasty after about year two or three. They seem to by nicely bonded until then.

I had a similar experience with the platinum variety of HRP. My pair had bred steadily for over a year and then one morning the female was torn to shreds. Luckily I had grown out one of their broods and now have another breeding pair.

Mine are Rio Danli too, but this wasn't even a full year. I still have a lot of older fry that are growing out nicely. I've been trying to sell them, but not one LFS know what they are.
