CORVALLIS, Ore. -- It took Corvallis police only 30 minutes to catch the thieves who allegedly stole a puppy straight from a car parked in a grocery store parking lot on Friday.
The puppy's owner, Michelle Glazier, says she was only inside the Albertson's in Corvallis for 10 minutes. When she came back out, she was shocked to find that her puppy she had left inside her car was missing.
Glazier says she didn't believe someone actually stole her puppy, but after realizing he was gone, she immediately called 911.
"I was just so sad. I was almost to the point of being depressed because he's my emotional support dog," said Glazier.
Police say it was her quick action that helped catch the thieves.
After reviewing the store's security footage, just 30 minutes later officers caught two suspects over at Kmart about 20 blocks away.
"The more time passes, the more likely their chances of getting away become," said Sgt. Jeff Marr, Corvallis Police Department.
Police say 33-year-old Angie Steele and 32-year-old Curtis Ostlund stole the puppy, then went over to Kmart and shoplifted about $175 worth of merchandise,
"It is a little bit unusual to have suspects not only steal something from a puppy in this particular circumstance then immediately go to steal additional property associated with the theft from the beginning," said Sgt. Marr.
The two suspects are both convicted felons. They pleaded not guilty to all charges against them in court Monday.
As for Soho, he's a very happy puppy with a very grateful owner.
"I'm elated. I can't stop touching him," said Glazier.
