Gymnogeophagus balzanii tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking Good! I still have my little group minus a female that suddenly passed as well. If I remember correctly, Ken said it took him a year and a half before he got them to breed. I'll have to post some pics of mine one of these days....

[It's a no-tech tank and I'm surprised the plants lived so long. Stock list is just 5 balzanii and some dithers (emperor tetras and roselines)

Do you have extra females?[/QUOTE]

Nice. I envy everyone's planted tanks, I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try it... I wish i had more females, but I only have one female. I started with four 1" fish that I picked up at The Wet Spot about a year and a half ago. One died within a day, and two ended up being male. I am thinking about getting a few more, but I'm not sure if they would ever catch up enough growth-wise to go together.

Indeed, and it was their only spawn. Ed also had success but I don't know if he still has his.

I love it.

back in the early 2000's I kept a trio of 1 male and two females that I grew up in a 65g tank.

I was able to keep them with big amazon swords and vals without issue.

I did lose them to a camallanus worm problem. I haven't seen them in my area since :(

Thanks. Two swords survived in this tank too but most rooted ones didn't make it :(

As a friend in our local club would say - I don't have a planted tank. I have plants in my tank :)

They look great. It looks like they've put on some weight since you got them. The cichlid store in my area has some small balzanii but they aren't as yellow and he wants $20 each for 2" fish. So I think I'll hold off until you get some fry. :)

Sure thing ;) I've had farm raised ones from Florida and they weren't yellow. Here's an old picture. Very different color.

Very nice tank and gorgeous gymnos. These species have never seen in Guatemala. I hope any time watch them...

congratulations!
