I have a baby bass and a baby channel catfish in a tank and they both seem to be flashing a lot and the bass swims eratically. I can't see any signs of any infections or anything and have read that aquarium salt can help ward off fungus and other bacterial infections. I also recall reading somewhere that salt can be bad for catfish cause they have a skin instead of scales. Anyone got any advice on whether you think it would be a bad idea or not to put some aquarium salt in there?

I use salt to treat my sick plecos and loaches as do catfish farms. They are just more sensitive to salt than other fishes so keep that in mind when you figure out your dose when treating.

So.. Will it kill him or will he most likely be alright if I watch my dosage?

Start off low and see what they tolerate. Be prepared to do a water change if they act stressed but like I mentioned above salt treatments are pretty much standard across the board. There is a study out there by the university of Alabama about treating channel cats with salt.

Has anyone else advised to dissolve the salt yet? Always dissolve the salt when you attempt to use it.

I'd simply stick to a teaspoon per gallon dose. If your catfishes are able to manage it, then you can add another teaspoon per gallon dose and maintain it to two teaspoons per gallon.
