Now that I think about it they do have some similar features;
Upright mouth
Tear-drop like pectoral fins
Surface feeder
Jumpy
Thread-like pelvic fins (although it is much more exaggerated in ABF)
any ideas? ;)

Yes they are related to the arowanas and probably the closest relative to the arowana than any other bonytongue fish. They are all in Osteoglossiformes including arowanas, arapaimas, featherbacks or old world knifefish, mormyrids, abas and the african butterfly fish.

it is a relative of the arowana but surface feeder and jumpy don't really mean anything. African arowana seem to be a bottom feeder and I've never seen a clown knife jump in any situation!

Genetics....everything is technically related, though it is a matter of how much.

well, as far as I know featherbacks knife, old world knife and mormyrids are a little further to the aro than the butterfly fish! I don't know what abas is!

Featherbacks and old world knifefish are the same group of knifefish. Not to be confused with nakedback knifefish or new world knifefish which are not related as they are not bonytongue fish. Aba aba is the closest related to the mormyrids than to featherbacks. All are just from Order: Osteoglossiformes. Which is divided into two Suborder: Notopteroidei and Osteoglossoidei.

I said they are a bit further because the butterflyfish is in the same suborder(Osteoglossoidei) and the knives are in a different suborder(Notopteroidei) but they're all still in the same super order(Osteoglossiformes)! and I do know the new world knife fish are close to some eel! Hope you understand my English:)!

Yes they are.
They are both from the Osteoglossiformes family which includs many fish such as arowanas, arapimas, african arowanas, knifes,mormyrids, etc.
Another name for this species is bony tounge fish.

p.s They are very cool and intelligent fish.
