Egg crate will def dim down the lights a lot. I lost the shimmer of my LEDs. Acrylic or plexiglass or whatever will bow unless you use very thick and then it's going to be expensive. Go to lowes or home depot they will cut some cheap or just buy a set. Glass cages.com also has them pretty cheap, don't waste your time trying to save 5 bucks, you will be glad. What are you keeping for fish that jump?

Dude, you don't put egg crate or lids on a fancy rimless tank that costs serious money. You keep fish that don't have a tendency to jump.
a top is better because the evap water will attach to light and need constant cleaning i used plexi glass i figured it works best because glass is nice but definitely more expensive and not as easy to move when its time to feed the fish what ever you choose best of luck
i want a tank similar to the one on the picture above. So i guess, you just dont put expensive fish in there. that's probably why you dont see those mega planted tanks with cool fish, just shrimp and neons
