no offense but that pet shop is giving you bad advice, in my opinion the secret to a successful fowlr is live rock and a good skimmer. i have a uv cause it came with the tank, it seems to help i guess. also live rock makes it look much more natural, especially when it starts to grow coralline algae. wet drys are nitrate factories for saltwater tanks i guess some people still use them. browse youtube, most of the nice fowlrs have live rock.

i was watching youtube and the videos for " fish only satlwater tanks" seem to be doing ok without live rocks. from wut ive learned. if its fish only and no live rocks. it will create more algae on glass and the fake rocks. which is the same to me like my freshwater tanks. jus gotta put a lil extra time to scrub them off. most website saids fish only is the most basic and easy way for beginners to start a saltwater tank. also keep in mind. im only start this project cuz i found the free tank so the less money i spend the better. live rocks coat $6 a pound and skimmer is around $200.. not trying to spend $500 on top off the free tank lol...

ok soo here is the plan.. the tank is being use as a freshwater tank now. looks good. i painted black. will have some pics up soon. now for my saltwater set up is already starting but i need to know more. i am set on doing a fish only tank.

heres wut i did and will be doing..

"did" 75g tank, fluval 405, 75g hang on filter, heater, lighting, salt mixed in already. been running for about 2 days now.

"doing" UV sterilizer , get all test kit and hydrometer ,
"
maybe do or not do" sand "not live" , rocks "not live" protein skimmer with filter/powerhead on ebay for $40 need or not needed?

well if you are doing a fish only tank think that some of those "fake corals'' could cost more then what living corals cost you like min live coral is about 10 dollars but for the fake coral i seen cheapest is about 40 dollars so you kinda have to list out the factors and if i was you i would sell the whole set up and get one of those complete setups like a bio cube (:

a salt water tank is expensive to set up and maintain....ake sure you have the funds to keep it going....my reef tank is my favorite tank i have ever kept

need protine skimmer...get the bigest one u can find....i would do a FOWLR tank because it provis=des live fauna for the fish and looks way better... use aragonite as a substrate and it will become "live"
