my brother uses one on his goldfish tank and isnt that loud also if it can keep the goldfish tank clean it must be ok lol! the bio wheels do slow down but that is when the cartridges need to be changed anyway. id give er a go

Emperor 400 is a good filter. I have some that have been running for 10 years. Only complaint I have is that the spray bar occasionally clogs up and needs to be cleaned. The strainer that is missing on your filter is available on-line for a couple of bucks. Telling Marineland that your new filter came without one is dishonest.
Here is a link to a site to buy a new strainer: http://www.petsolutions.com/storefr...emperor-filter-parts/prodEmperor400Parts.html
the bowheels are supposed to slow down that is a good thing lol if u read the book it says they turn brown and they slowdown but never replace them wtf hahamy brother uses one on his goldfish tank and isnt that loud also if it can keep the goldfish tank clean it must be ok lol! the bio wheels do slow down but that is when the cartridges need to be changed anyway. id give er a go![]()
hey just turn your filter on and off a couple times and it will be quiet trust me bro i know what im sayingOkay so i just reveived my new filter, i hooked it all up and my only complaint is its a little noisy compared to my older one.. which is the same filter.. kind of annoying lol. Anyways it came with an attachment that allows for an extention so i can have the filter suck up debri closer to the bottom. The attachment that connects the regular intake to the extention has a grating on it which i can use to allow a small mid-level intake. I decided not to use it though because im primarily concerned with the bottom of the tank where all the debri collects, plus it would just take away from the suction at the bottom, which is where i need it most.
Lol i can confirm this too seeing as how i JUST bought one and read the package and all. You should definitley never replace the biowheels unless they are damaged. They can sometimes require a rinse to get some excess build up off of them but they are supposed to get brown and heavier which is why they slow down.the bowheels are supposed to slow down that is a good thing lol if u read the book it says they turn brown and they slowdown but never replace them wtf haha

Your statement tells me a lot about your character.I know my spray bars were clogged when i first got it. Im not worried about being dishonest the company makes plenty of money and i feel its justice for their expensive cartridges

Your Emperor should quiet down to match the older one when it gets covered in the slime that develops in there and breaks itself in. I don't really like the emperors that much though. Eventually they get a lot louder and start to get really weak for some unknown reason. I'd rather go for a penguin over the emperor (I've had better experiences with reliability, consistency, and noise level from my penguins). Emperors aren't bad though, in fact they do a good job. Marineland HOB's are kinda hit or miss on noise level. I have some that are absolutely silent (most of them)and I have ones that have a slight hum and then I have ones that get iritating (usually really old and could use a new impeller, though I have some really old ones that are still really quiet). I just started buying Hagen HOB's and am quite pleased with the performance and noise level so far. I love the Fluval C series filters for my smaller tanks and am impressed with the aquaclear 110 for my larger tanks. A little fish safe silicone grease makes the Hagen HOB's really quiet. Works for the marinelands too, but its much harder to grease the impellers.
