So the age old request has yet again reared its head... Can anyone confirm the sex of my Jags?

Male Jag.jpg
This I believe to be my male. The one on the right (in this pic) I believe to be a female.

Female Jag.jpg
This one I believe is the female. Sorry for the poor pics but I only had my cell handy.

The male is about an inch or so bigger than the female (assuming I'm right), and he has been flaring and excavating like a fool. She is a new addition to the tank and usually hides above the powerhead or under some driftwood. I'm really hoping I have a male and female here and they breed - Anyone have some input? Anything would be appreciated!

Really? Ok... So the first may be a female. Can I ask why you say that? I only ask because I really want to get better at sexing these fish and have only read articles on what to look for, but have no real practice. I've kept fish for a long time, but never sexed Jags before.

the row of dark blotches usually means female most males i have seen have a more uniform pattern of smaller spots.

The other one seems to have the same row of blotches. Would a female have a "tube" that would extend from her vent to lay eggs? I have seen what looks like a tube coming from the vent area on the larger one in the first pic, but it only shows up when near the smaller one.

top looks like male to me. with my pair the feme has no dark spots below the lateral line and my male does. yours has some dark spotting but not enough to be sure. second looks pretty stressed to tell

Interestingly enough the smaller one has fewer spots below the lateral line. And yes, the smaller one is stressed because the larger one won't leave it alone!

Here are some of my pair. The more you see the more you feel good about your choices. I think Managuense are a little hard to sex with 100% certainty sometimes.
