I have a 37 gallon south american cichlid tank with a 9'' quetzal cichlid, a 5'' red headed severum, and a 3'' parrot cichlid.I purchased a 3.5'' tinfoil barb as a dither fish 5 days ago. This morning, he died from my cichlids harassing him. He had torn fins and missing scales. Anyway, what would be a compatible fish that would bring the cichlids out, but wouldn't get picked on?

If possible, a schooling fish.

i don't think adding dither fish will help with that size of a tank

edit: i noticed this is the third exact thread you started in this forum...

Ok but my tinfoil barb was active and he REALLY brought them out.

I posted this in 1 of the other 4 threads you created with the same name, so here, in case it gets deleted for being a duplicate, is my response.

That tank is too small for ANY of those fish by themselves. A Quetzal (synspilum) gets 12+ inches. Severums can get 8+ inches, a TRUE parrot can get 12+ inches, blood parrots can get upwards of 8 inches and tinfoli barbs can get 10-12 inches.

Get rid of all of them and get a cichlid or pair that grows way smaller and can live in a 37 gallon tank such as convicts, sajica, honduran red points, dwarf cichlids or dwarf pikes.

Good Luck

your tank is too small to have more than 1 cichlid of that size, but you still could keep dwarf cichlids like mentioned above or some angels and it would still look really cool

How about some pics?
