Collecting Wild Driftwood...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the tannins will not hurt the fish, when i first got a piece of driftwood i have now, i thought since i found it in a creek, that all the tannins would be out of it. But after boiling it and letting it dry I put it in my tank and it released tannins for about 2 weeks

Same here. Any I've ever added has released tannins.

Water changes and carbon has helped me get rid of it. Usually takes a few weeks to a couple months.

But it won't hurt anything. Just makes the tank look like black water, which is actually kind of cool if you like that look.

How long does it take a piece of d.w. to get completely saturated (on average)?? jus wondring how long im gona have to keep my pieces weighted down

..had some in my tank that took 6+ months...just depends on the wood.

Haha well my trip was a pretty big flop. Couldn't find anything decently solid. Some pieces were unattached from the tree but still hard bark on them. Are those ok if I shave off the bark?
