It's cold... Shipping and Heat Packs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would probably wait and see if the temp at night rises a little.

12"x12"x12" styro-lined box, express mail, highs around 40, lows around 20... are two 72 hour unipack heat packs enough?

Thanks!

Pretty much any fish will do fine provided that the box is well insulated & heated and it's bagged properly (especially if shipped overnight), and you've got that all covered. Those syro-lined boxes hold heat pretty well, and the temperature shouldn't drop very much, if at all, with both of those heat packs in there.

What are you shipping anyway?

I'm not actually the shipper, I'm the worried reciever. :) It's a proven pair of super red severums. The shipper's temps are in the 60s, it's my temps that are cooler. They'll be sent hold for pickup, so they wont be out on a cold truck all day.
When I look at the forecast, the shippers temps only get colder while mine don't get much warmer, so I'm really hoping you're right and that they should be alright with a couple of heat packs.
I'm not going to get any sleep on monday.

They'll be fine. I've sent and received numerous live fishes, mostly during winter, and they've all arrived safe and sound. The fishes that I've received include three lungfishes of various sizes, one gar, one silver arowana, three peacock bass, and two pirate perch; all of these fishes arrived safe and sound during the Fall and Winter (mostly Winter).

Did the shipper give you a live arrival guarantee since you had them sent overnight?

Of course not. :P They were trying to sell them pick up only because they were worried about the size of the fish. I talked them into shipping them to me. They have shipped before and it sounds like they know what they're doing... but it'll be pins and needles for me until tuesday. They go out monday.
