Larger Peaceful Cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Discus, or Bolivian rams IMO. The LFS I work at has some BEAUTIFUL Bolivians at about 5". They show more color than I ever knew they could. I guess I just never saw a fully-grown one.

Blood parrots would probably work too...if you're into that kind of thing.

I'd definitely get discus if i had the money to pay $50 per fish... and the last blood parrot i had was really aggressive and a complete idiot... i swear he tried to dominate a plant at one point..

Chocolate cichlid, rainbow cichlid etc

red severum, chocolate, keyholes.if the angels breed will they be aggressive to tankmates? not sure about so.jersey, but north of you is a few good LFS

You can do a small group of medium-sized Geos, like orange heads. They would look good with your angels considering the dimensions of the tank.

You can also do a pair of sevs if they get along.

If the tank is planted, you have many options of smaller SAs, like rams, apistons, nannacara, keyholes, etc etc.

Don't do firemouth. Horrible idea.

Yeah LovesSeverums already told me to cross out firemouths from the list of options so i did. The tank isn't planted. and I'd love a pair of the orange heads, i like the altifrons to but i think they might get to big to have a pair of them and the oranges.

You are in the states. Peathenster has Geo orange head Tapajos juveniles for sale. Get a group of six and raise them out in your tank. Even with the shipping cost they will be a great price. Because they only get to about 6", they should do well in your tank. They will also be peaceful toward the angels.

I would avoid severums because breeding pairs get very territorial. They would probably wreak havoc on your angels if that were the case.

Pomatomus, Bolivian rams don't grow that large. Either you overestimated, or the 5" fish you saw was a Biotodoma species that sometimes look like large Bolivian rams. ;) I have seen them mislabeled at stores before.

I don't think I would do a chocolate with this stock list. They are relatively peaceful but they still might be a bit to handle for the fish you have. They do get very large.

I like the idea of rainbow or maybe some rams.
