I know there is a difference between amphilophus citrinellus and amphilophus labiatus. Red devil will be close enough because they are almost always mixed with the midas

ummm disagree, you can clearly tell a difference between a labiatus and a citrinellus if you get them from a reliable source. noone would ever mistake my red devil for a midas :)

but hey if you think they look the same, it's your tank bud :)

You love to argue don't you? lol

If you went to petsmart, petco, or most LFS in your state. Their "Midas" will almost always be mixed with a red devil. It can be the other way around.
I don't like buying online, therefore I go to LFS. So that is why I know midas and red devils are mixed a lot.

FYI red devils have thick lips and small nuchal bumps.
Midas's have large nuchal bumps and have thin lips.

What are you talking about? Reliable source? You probably live in the middle of nowhere and have to order from online so you obviously never saw a mixed midas x devil have you? Go to a public pet store and these two species are always mixed.

Hey how about you tell the difference between these two?
Heres the first one

Lets see how good you are when it comes to telling the differences between red devils and midas cichlids.

not trying to be argumentative, i don't know your buying habits or where you buy fish from, my point remains, you can clearly tell a difference between a midas and a red devil. i would pick an amphilophus wet pet over any of the fish on your list. i have 20 or so amphilophus, vieja, parachromis and a few others and my amphilophus are by far the most personable. good luck

hmm alot of assumptions here, yes i've seen a midevil, in fact lowcel's midevils and amphilophus aquarium are one of the main reasons i set up a ca tank. i live in dallas, but be that as it may i ordered my fish online. reliable source meaning a person you can trust, the person i bought mine from i would trust 100% when he says they are labiatus, sagittae, red islestes, amarillo, chancho etc they are the fish he is advertising.
