I have a 125 gallon (60" x 18" x 24"), 2 x AquaClear 110's. PFS bottom, a ton of River rock piled in the center, 4 pieces of Driftwood, and quite a few live plants.

I'm currently stocked with
1 x 3" Red Tailed Black Shark
1 x 4" Dempsey (Male)
1 x 5" Dempsey (Female)
1 x 4" Red Devil
1 x 5" Blood Parrot
1 x 4" Firemouth
1 x 2" Convict (Female)
3 x 3" Clown Loach (I'll be getting 2 more. 1 jumped, 1 was lost in a different tanks hollow decoration)
8 x 1" Tiger Barbs
1 x 6" Common Pleco

I realize that I'll have to rehome fish as they get larger as I'll run into aggression issues. As you can tell in the picture below (Most of the fish are hiding) there is currently plenty of hiding places in the river rock. I've piled them all very carefully to make a ton of caves.

Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions for restocking my tank. I don't want pairs (yes, I realize I have a pair of JD's). I had a pair of convicts that spawned in this tank and it turned into a war zone. I enjoy colorful fish. If I were starting fresh, I'd probably do a Mbuna tank, but when I initially got into the "big tank", I didn't know much of a difference.

Any suggestions?

The tank is the center piece of my living room, which is why it has no background (it's viewable from both sides), it's why I also have the AC110's mounted on the ends.

I have a 55g mixed african tank and thats very exciting and fun to watch, I also have a 225 gallon tank, that I didnt want boring stock.

Kind of like you, I wanted to have interesting stock, but nothing too rare and precious. and also no pairs.
I'll tell you my stock maybe it will help
1x yellow red devil
1x green terror
1x vieja bifasciatus
2x ptychromis oligicanthus ( madagascan cichlid)
1x Champsochromis Caeruleus ( predatory pike like african cichlid)
1x Chocolate cichlid
Senegal Bichir

and 8 Columbian tetras ( about 4-5 inches and bright blue and red)

simple yet diverse, and with a large footprint like yours you can easily diversify you stock a little.
Hope that helps anyway If you want any pictures of the fish I listed I can post them, although all my fish are juveniles.

good luck!

Geophagus are very active and social fish. You would have to rehome all of your cichlids but the geos will be out and about sifting sand instead of setting up shop in a cave.

I know you understand your current stock won't be able to survive forever in that tank. But fyi, that RD will kill all of those fish. It will need a large tank alone.

x2, Geophagus are great cichlids to keep if you are in to activity. I have 14 of them and they are very active and fun to watch, and around feeding time will follow me around the tank.

I think a handful of Vieja or Paratheraps would be great. Start them out small and you will be able to house for a good 1.5 years.
Argentea, Bifasciata, Synspilum, Zonatus, and maybe 1 or 2 more. These will eventually get large, (just like with most CA Cichs).

As for the RD killing everything in the tank. I have to disagree, dont scare the guy to get rid of a fish just because this is what you have heard, or maybe this happened to you.

The Devils have a tendency to get quite aggressive, but I own 7 and all are 9+" and all coexisting well.

I didn't say a red devil couldn't work with another red devil. I said a Red devil would kill his stock. And just because your set-up works doesn't mean it is good advice to tell everyone. Sorry to be combative, just frustrating... what size is your tank?

x3 i have 3 geo and i loove it watch they sifting the sand..

I think we have all seen many pictures of red devils and midas coexisting with other large cichlids at adult size. Tons of guys on this site do it. if we were talking about 55 or 75 then I would agree but this guy has a pretty big tank.
