I have been playing acoustic guitars for years (Martin D-35 and Swd model). I want to get an electric and like the look of the Gibson Les Paul studio. Wondering anyone have any remarks on this guitar- positive or negative. Don't know much about electric guitars. Thanks in advance.

Thats all I play is Les Pauls. Once you get used to the weight you will never play another. I've had few studios they are great. The only thing I did to them is had the frets filed and the action lowered so they played like my standards. I still have one studio in my lineup that I use regularly

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and professionally for 20 . That said , a black gibson les paul studio was my first electric ever as a christmas present when i was 14 . (played classical for 7 years before that ) . I still have that guitar and I love it . I would definitely recommend it as a great 1st electric guitar .

I have about 8 les Paul's. They are great guitars and I played them for years professionally. I've recently switched to Gibson explorers and Dean z's, but I'll always have a few les Paul's in the studio. I even have a 12 string. My favorite is probably my 1980 custom shop Custom with maple fretboard. Thing weighs about 15 pounds.

Great guitars in general

playing for 20 years, had a 59les paul jr that screamed, however I am heavily influenced by Steve Vai and Satch and the 80's ibanez thrash bands so I have been an ibanez psycho for years. Being that Ibanez began as a gibson rip off I cant rip em. I just love how fast thin and flat Ibanez necks are. Just don't get on this trendy schecter kick, I still haven't found one worth playing.

Im 24 and have been playing since I was about 11-12. Les pauls are very nice, I'm not gonna knock em. But they just are not my cup of tea. I play hard rock/ metal and I need a slim, fast neck, super crunchy distortion (I'm an emg sucker), sustain for days, etc. and for me, it just doesnt get any better than a good Jackson or ESP, I'm an ESP man to the bone...The kind of guitar setup you need is GREATLY influenced by what style of music you play, of course you can change pickups, etc., but why not get it close initially. I hope you find something that suits you...let us know what you get.

esp's are nice too , I've got several of them . The semi-hollowbody eclipse archtop was my #1 guitar for a few years . but back to the o.p. ... if you like the "look " of a les paul , the eclipse models by esp are very similar , and a good value . Of course you could always get an epiphone les paul for way less money and they're not too bad .

Agreed...You can find very affordable used ec 1000s on craigslist and ebay from time to time.
