Ive had this piece of pine in my fish tank for probably 6 months and its sitting in a overflow that i plugged off and is not acctually in the tank but ive over filled it a few times and its full of water to the brim. Now the piece of wood is sitting on top of it really to stop fish from jumping out. Anyways today i noticed a fuzzy fungus with brown roots growing in it which wasn't there a few days ago. Now will this be harmful to my fish or should it be left alone. Let it be know this is not a piece of bog wood or mopani its from my fathers work where they make cabinets. No idea if it was pressure treated or if it has any chemicals in it. The wood itself has curled up from being in there.

The fungus like material itself shouldn't be harmful just look unsightly to look at. It is a decay of the wood and it could cause the ammonia to rise a little if it completely gets covered. I seen white like fungus grow on driftwood ment for aquariums. Usually if you keep a Pleco in the tank they will keep it down from sight. You could wash it off but it will just keep growing back.
