Looking for Native plants will trade for tropical plants

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Will I be able to keep any plants alive in my pond? I really want some native plants like lily pads and whatnot

Theaseabean - If you get any fish I might be interested in those too. Mainly Darters, killifish, minnows, small sunfish like Bluspotted, banded, etc. As for plants, from the link you provided, I am interested in:

Water Shield (Brasenia schreberi)

Tape Grass (Vallisneria american)

If you get other stuff let me know I may be interested in it.

Steveo McNello - Over where I am at I keep banana plants (which are small lilys), Anacharis, Pondweed, Parrots feather, and water hyacinth. They are all suriviing fine. But I don't get any frost, where you are at I don't know if any of these will overwinter outdoors. I know for sure the Water Hyacinth would die.

My pond's in my basement so I might need to put a plant light in my fixture. Or do the ones that don't bud require much light?

Steveo - Anacharis and maybe the parrots feather might do fine. They may need some light though, like ambient light or some window light. The water hyacinth definitely needs light, it is a full sun plant. The pond weed I don't know much about but I do believe it is a plant that is not too demanding. The banana plant needs light/sun too. You can try some hornwort/coontail it is a weedy plant , but again, I think it needs some kinda window light or ambient light atleast. What temps does your basement stay at?

Another thing to clear up is Parrots feather and Water Hyacinth are non-native. They are invasive species originally from South America I believe. But they are great pond plants so that is why I use them. The Pond weed I think is a non-native too from I think Europe. I could be wrong though.

If anyone could get me Vallisneria Americana or some other native weeds I got Java ferns, anubias nana, java moss, Dwarf lily and some crypts for trade. If no one is interested I will just sell these plants then.
