what kind of catfish is this?

thanks, cool fish. does he get 3' long too? do you have him with tank mates?

i saw a tiger shovel nose catfish. i really like how they look but size is an issue with them also.

From what i have read and heard from other LSN keepers i can expect him to get about 16-24" whereas a TSN your lookin at almost the same size issues as a RTC. I definately love the way tigers look, but they just get way too big for me right now.
Mine is about 7-8" right now and i have a 3" or so pleco in with him and he'll chase the plec around the tank if he gets too hungry but hasnt actually tried to eat him yet.I temporarily put my spotted raphael in with him as well with no issues. But as with any other cat, its not a good idea to add any fish you care to keep that could in anyway fit in their mouth cuz sooner or later they will be dinner.
That being said, i am planning on adding a pair of convicts to his tank sometime soon since i dont think they can fit in his mough and im pretty sure once they claim their territory he'll stay away. I started thinking of some other south american fish that i would enjoy adding to his tank and thats as far as i got so far lol.

Ive only seen a few things on LSN before. Never believed any of it. When I saw "Maximum Size: 20 inches" I just couldnt really believe it considering how close it is to a TSN. I dont know much about them, but I'd love confirmation that they only get the size that people say they do.
I own a TSN and it's 13ish inches right now, and will someday have to be moved to my outdoor pond because of his potential size. Id love to have a SN that i could keep in my 220 for life though

I just got mine a few weeks ago but i was told he's over a year old and is only 7-8".
As for max potential we shall see lol. I have seen one guy here in town keep one. He had his for about 4 years and while i dont know an exact measurment it was under 2' for sure.

What kind of catfish would you recommend for a 40 gallon tank?

I was thinking an Albino Cory Catfish or an African Featherfin Catfish (sorry if I'm being disrepectful and these arnt "real" catfish, I'm a newb)

If I have a Black Kuhli Loach would that replace catfish??? And then what would the benefits to each

thanks

Yes there are lots of smaller cats. But i wanted a shovelnose lol. And limas are the smallest i could find any info on. If anyone does know of a smaller Shovelnose let me know so i can see if i can get my hands on one.
For a 40 gallon tank, Raphaels cats (spotted raphs look really cool), pictus cats, featherfins are cool but i dont know their full grown size, eclipse cat. those are just a few that come to mind for a 40 gal.

What size aquarium do you have? There are other nice cats out there that don't require hundreds of gallons of living space you know

my tank is 8x3x3', about 500gallons. but i want the fish to have room to swim around and not be cramped. i did think about a Gar but from what i've read my tank is not wide enough as they don't turn small circles...
