Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and I just bought a 125 gallon setup.

-72"x24"x18"
-Rena xp3 filter
-2 x coralife 30'' light

I'm looking to get a Jardini Arowana and 2 bichirs.

What do you guys think? Any advice?

Thanks,
Choua

Your tank will be underfiltered with just a Rena XP3 filter on it. I would add another filter (canister or HOB such as an AquaClear 110).

Joe, how is it underfiltered? I thought the xp3 was for 170 gallon tanks and has a flow of 350 gph? Just curious, thanks.

Even though the manufacturer claims the XP3 can filter up to a 170 gallon tank, it really can't, unless the tank is very lightly stocked. The 350 gallon flow rate almost gives you a 3 times turnover of water volume which is kind of low. Add to that the fact that the flow rate will drop off considerably as the filter media gets dirty and you may not even be turning over 2 times the volume. So unless you are planning to stock your tank very lightly, your single XP3 filter will not provide enough filtration for a 125 gallon tank.
