My Texas Cichlid

i wouldn't worry about stunting the fish, you have obviously not done it any harm and have looked after it well for it to have reached the age that it is :)
 
The age alone of your fish is testament to your care of it. Not many people on here can boast having any fish for 11+ years. Lovely fish, I just bought a juvinile and hope it will live to 11 years as well.
 
:D Thanks everyone. I've always loved Texas Cichlids but I've noticed they haven't received a lot of attention on this site so I thought I'd throw mine out there for all to see :P
 
^ they are my favorite type of cichlid. I haven't been keeping them for a decade like you though :) I guarantee I will be.
 
Don't know how you feel about cichlid hybrids but here's my favorite male. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?447552-Texas-and-kkp-eggs He's not a hybrid though. Still a little small but getting there and going to be a colorful monster.

Oh wow, they're beautiful! Do you ever give them feeders just to treat the fish (and you a little bit :P)?
 
I give them different pellets on different days but for treats the mainly get freeze dried krill. I can hand feed krill to the one. I've dropped a piece on his tanks glass top and he about went crazy trying to get it poor guy lol.
 
I've tried feeding him con fry and he ate a few but the rest grew to a nice size in his tank so I had to give them away. He's a pretty gentle Texas (odd I think?) I'm sure that will change as he gets larger.
