Wow!!! I got on tonite to ask a question and stumbled upon your thread now I'm in such awe that I forgot what I was going to do tonite in the first place. Great tank!

Haha, hopefully Lupin sees this thread so he can lust over the goldfish.

Thank you. I do that all the time...stumble across a thread that sparks my interest and before I know it, a few hours later I have no idea where my day/night went.

Why is it painful? I don't get it. I thought you liked goldfish?

Thanks.

Tank looks stunning! Now you just need some heat in there and some cichla :)

Update: The room temperature has been dipping into the upper 40's at night (even though it's been down into the low 30s outside) and the water temperature is down to 53F.

My hope that I would save money by not running the pool pumps in the winter time has been crushed by a little feature called "Freeze On." Anytime the air temps get down to 35F, both my main pump (2 HP- 2,300 watts) and waterfall pump (1.5HP- 1,500 watts) run in order to prevent water from freezing in my pipes (that's 3,800 watts!). The past few nights my pumps have been running for 6 to 8 hours (this is more than I run them in the summer time)! I'm on pace to have a $350+ electric bill. If I were heating this tank with what would probably require 2,000 watts + that would probably add another $200+ to my bill. The good news is that my Super Dart Gold is only sipping 175 watts. The bad news is that keeping tropical fish in my unheated little shack in the yard is starting to really look like a pipe dream.

Is the shack insulated? ANyway to add heat? I would find a way to heat that bad boy w/out breaking the bank. It can be done.

Shack is insulated. Believe me, I've explored every option you can think of to heat it, but all of the options are too expensive right now. It doesn't get quite as cold as up in Tahoe, but the forecast calls for a low of 29F tonight.

I am really curious to see how often the heaters would have to cycle once I get it up to 78F...they might not come on as often as I'm guessing if I insulate the tank really well. Anyone local not using a big heater they would be willing to loan me for a month to test it out? :naughty:
