100% male. Pointed dorsal and anal fin, no black spot in the dorsal fin etc.. A very nice one too!
Definitely male. The lack of a black spot in the dorsal fin... as females have a black spot on theirs. If that thing is alone in a 75g, you may be lucky to get it to accept a female, otherwise that's too small of a tank as it's not unheard of for Carpintis to be a little off the chain in the psycho department. I have one that fears nothing in my tank... it's the smallest fish in my tank. It challenges all comers.
A lot of carpintis females display no black in there dorsal fin. I have only had a couple that ever did and numerous that showed zero black.
Thats is definately a male. Females never develope the large head shape like that. Best to vent them to be sure though. If several are in a tank generally only one male will look like that as the others will stay subdominate in the hopes of not getting beat silly.
i hope this is true as i've got seven escondido's and they are about two and a half inches long and none of them have and black in the dorsal fin, hopefully i havn'y got seven males![]()
Very unlikely that you have seven males. Escondido's females seldom show much black in there dorsals, a few will, some do only when spawning, and a lot never do.
