I just Set up my 300GL tank the problem is water level on the tank does not reach at least half of the teeth of the built in overflow box its just barely 1/4 of the teeth the box has durso pipe measuring 1.25" that drains to a 75GL wet and dry filter that is run by 2 Quiet ones 4000...Question is how to raise the water level of the display tank? is my pump not powerful enough or are the drain pipes too big?

u can get a stronger pump or get smaller drain pipes it depends on what u want to do but either of those will cause the water level in the tank to rise, the other option is put ball valves on the drain pipes so u can restrict the flow of water leaving the tank.

Hey thanks for the response but which one do you think is the much better option to put ball valves or to make the drain pipes smaller how small is smaller the original is 1.25"?

To my understanding the drain pipes have to be at least 1.25" or they'll be noisy. You'll have to go the bigger pump route as long as it's not too fast for your wet dry to keep up with.

OK so just incase I do the bigger pump what kind of submersible pump do I need to use which at thesame time is energy efficient too?

if you are happy with your flow and filtration, then the ball valve is the cheapest way to go. a ball valve by itself will not increase noise. in fact it may reduse your noise because it will effect the flow from your tank to your sump.

just saying there is more than one way to look at this. JMO

Ball valve. Its cheaper and will solve your problem. I think once you get it on you will wonder why you didnt have one in the first place. I like to fidget with things..

I run a pair of q16000's on my 300 and my water level is only about 1/3 of the way up the teeth. I also run a ball valve, but I'm running Herbies so the only effect the valve has is the water level in the box, not the display.
I'd be very careful valving a drain without a backup(emergency) drain in place. Just my opinion of course.
