Collecting Wild Driftwood...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I just got a small piece of driftwood from my kinda-LFS, what should I do now? Do I have to soak it? Or can I just put it where I want it

Ok, black spots could be anything, it looked like you prepped the wood fine, I would have just let it be in the tank and watched it. Mine had white fluffy stuff grow on it for a few days, then I found out plecos really like that stuff and they ate it down and grew two inches in a month too.

As for store bought woods, I usually treat them as found wood cause who knows where they have been sitting or what they caught in a warehouse. Wash it up, scrub it good, soak it in a bucket to leech out some tannins for awhile and then into the tank.

In Chicago area you can find some nice stuff around Orland Park area or the North Riverside/Riverside/Lyons area.
