I would start using tap water and de-chlorinator. That way you can change much more water every day. Piranhas are not picky about water quality.
No, DO NOT feed them until you see signs of recovery.. & yeah, it does look like ammonia poisoning..Awh I see I might start doing that tomorrow if things go smoothly tonight, the little guy is acting up, I am going to get some feeder tetras because they havent ate yet.

Keep doing 30~50% water change daily like the others have suggested.. Just use tap water & add dechlorinator.. That's it & don't add any other chemicals..
Don't clean your canister now, you need the filter to grow beneficial bacteria since your tank is not cycled..
I'm pretty sure those are unnecessary.. I've fish gone through this ordeal once & all I did was the things I stated above..Yest thank you! Very Helpful post! Will full your advise throughly, I have micro lift bacteria and stress coat, just to double check dont add them?
cycling a tank takes longer than 5 days. With out fish waste its not going to cycle properly. The month fishless probably screwed up everything. It looks like there is rotting plant debris everywhere? What do your nitrates and nitrites test out at? all the rotting vegetation is going to ruin your water quality. If its all over the tank im sure your filter is packed full. I would do water changes, clean up everything including filter and get everything balanced meaning your nitrates/nitrites/ammonia. Piranha are very messy. How many are left? A 55 is just a stepping stone to a larger tank imo. I am running 3 canister filters and I have to have an airs tone running all the time.
What method can a person use to fully cycle a tank in 3 days? Its always been a lengthy process for me to get filters and everything ready to take on the bio load of tank inhabitants with out having ammonia problems etc.
