Question about A. Amarillo and A. Citrinellus.

Do you remember which tank they were in?
I remember where he put the Amarillo I sold to him.
(2nd aisle back by the 300cubes)

This one I got was in the first aisle, last tank at the top across from the decor they sell there. It was by itself. The Amarillo's, were they in with other fish? This one looked different than them also.

I brought him 13 Amarillo& we put them down the second aisle, 4/5 tanks from the 300cubes, mid-level.

Now if you go there today - he has more. They are second aisle, mid-level,last tanks on the left. They'll be in with some JD's& Cyanos (Texas)

Yea, those are the ones I saw. Coulda swore he had all of them marked as Red Throat Midas. The ones you took in were smaller right?

What he said.

Their (wild) source is the main differentiation. No provenance to a source, no certainty that you've got one species vs. another...

Matt

Bingo.

Without some kind of provenance there's no telling with any certainty what the genetics of your fish are. No amount of photos is going to help, anymore than they would when attempting to differentiate between a "midas" and a "red devil". These are nothing more than common trade names used by the tropical fish industry, not by local collectors, and not by ichthyologists. The use of common names is a BIG problem in the cichlid hobby, especially within the midas complex.
