Liquid Vitamin Supplement - Do you use them?

People use Vitamin blocks in the filter to help during the treatment of HITH. It is farly common within the Oscar community. I'm pretty sure it's the added vitamin C they're after.

IMO vitamin blocks are a gimmick, and pretty much worthless if one is attempting to supplement a fish with water soluble vitamins via the water column, especially in the case of Vitamin C which at the rate used in one of these blocks probably breaks down as fast as it enters the water column. While Vitamin C is an extremely important nutrient, especially for fish under any type of stress, the most efficient way for a fish to absorb it is via its diet.

I don't think that these vitamin supplements are needed at all. If you are doing your water changes to keep up your water chemistry and feeding good food then I don't think there is any need with cichlids. Especially when some of these vitamins are going to be broken down when they are just there floating in water and being exposed to sunlight. Because of this, you don't see them used in high amounts in the hobby.

Same thing with humans. We wouldn't need to take vitamins if we had a diet with all that we needed already in it and lived in an environment that was healthy. Now I personally do take vitamins but that is because I know there are things in my diet that is lacking. If only they made pellets for humans that seem to have about everything in them. LOL.
