P. Demasoni Fry Tips

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Any other fish you would recommend to manage aggression in the future? I sent my wife a picture of the julidochromis and she isn't sure its her type, not to mention I have never seen any here at the stores we go to.

most mbuna with a bit of a mean streak and are not similar in colour should be a good mix in a large enough tank. the biggest thing to avoid in tankmates are vertical dark bars and a bluish tinge. M. auratus might be a good mix if you find them.

I had read this and we had avoided blue fish and fish with dark barring. Why is it that they are so aggressive to similar coloured or patterned fish?

I like the labs because they offset the colour beautifully with their bright yellow against the blues and blacks of our demasoni.

the issue is that with similar fish the head male will assume that the different but similar looking species is competition for his surplus of females and will give them the hell he'd give males of his own species. Especially dangerous for the other since very few similar sized and coloured fish are quite as bad as what I know of Demasoni and if it is a female, which are generally less tolerable of constant attacks the prognosis is grim

Cool thanks for the info. We were following that rule but I was interested in the reasoning. God I love the advice I get on this site, all the people here are the best.

Thanks for all the help. If anyone can think of any other info or pointers that is great. Otherwise we will get the 40 setup in the basement for them to move to shortly and continue to raise them.

I think we are going to try to go with water changes because I am a little concerned about the excess food at the bottom. Seems leaving it there will just create more problems. So I was thinking, if I make small water changes every day or 2, and preheat and treat the water with prime so it is as close to the water they get as possible, will this help prevent shock? Or should I pull water from the main tank to try and maintain consistency of water?

Our second Demsani female gave us fry today. 7 more fry from her. That gives us a grand total of 22 in 3 days from two moms. I don't see any other fish holding so that should take care of that for a little while. So much excitement and so much work to catch the fish all in one day.

My wife and I have been working on fertility treatments for ourselves for the past 2 years and this has been a nice reward, to take away the hopelessness that we generally associate with reproduction. For most it probably doesn't seem like a big deal but these fish have been a nice little thing we have done together to help relieve the stress of our treatment, its nice for them to bear such positive results!

nice, wish i could take some off your hands but a little distant and my 75 is going to be a hap tank. post some pics of the fry and parents.
