i've had my 50 gallon malawi tank going for a long while and it's finally time for me to get a bigger tank as my haps/peacocks are getting very large and need more space.

so today i'm ready to go buy a brand new 75 gallon set up. call someone up to help transport, and he says hey, buy my 125 for the same price..

here's the problem. i have a choice to make. where my tank is right now is a four foot wall, and my 50 (and the 75) fit like a glove, it's right in the middle of my main room. as soon as you walk in the door, you see it. in the kitchen, you see it. on the couch, you see it (it's all one big room with a vaulted ceiling). simply put, it is THE prime spot for a tank. i'm obsessed with my fish, and i watch them all the time.

a 125 would be far too wide to fit here. however, i have ALWAYS wanted one. i could put basically whatever i wanted in it with no concerns (i'm wanting moorii, venustus, etc.). and this is such a good deal, i hate to pass it up. everything is 6 months old and flawless condition. i could put the 125 in a corner room. you'd be able to see it from the main room as there are always opened double doors, but to really see it and gaze continuously, as i do, it's not ideal. you'd have to walk in there and stand to look at it.

so would you rater have a 75 in a prime spot, or a 125 in a room where it's not going to be seen nearly as much?

125 in a room where its not going to be seen nearly as much, your fish will be happier and you won't kick yourself in the __ later for passing up the deal. You could always save up to buy a 75g for that prime spot :)

Why not just leave the 50 running and put the 125g in the other room? That's what I did. Other than I have my 72g BF in my living room as soon as you come in and my 110 as soon as you go in my bed room..

I would take the 75. I have 2 tanks in my office and other than feedings and maintenance I don't spend a lot of time in there so, less than a hour a week, so I don't get a lot of enjoyment from them. My office tanks are a 20(was just sitting around so I put a fish in it) and a fluval chi with a betta and nerite snails so there isn't a big commitment. If my 125 and 36 were not in my living room, as much as I love keeping fish, I would probably get tired of the maintenance and expenses.

get the 125 and then you can use the 50 as a growout? whatever else tank thats what im doing but i have a 150 and a 40 150 is main show tank and 40 is growout plus a few smaller fish that can stay in there for life pretty much thats what i recommend good luck and have fun with the new tank!

i don't want both. plus i'm selling the 50 to help fund the new tank.

i've got my furniture moved every which way right now. the room is a mess, trying to find a way to put the 125 in there. i've actually got it figured out (small couch where 50g is now, 125 on wall where couch was, but my wife will NEVER go for it, because the wall is about a foot too small and the couch hangs over on each side. fine by me, but she will surely object when she gets home. Sad

Poop on the couch and blame a dog or hobo, at this point the wife will demand youn drag the couch out back to be burned then replace the couch with a nice leather recliner.
