So I'm setting up my 75 in 2 weeks and I'm seriously torn between these two.

Can you all tell me your experiences with these fish including pros / cons about their personality, coloration (did your red isletas have red on their head?), owner interaction, health, etc.

Thanks all!

I have had many Midas cichlid and I had some gentle ones and then some real ***es. They are great fish and will only love you cuz y bring the best food lol. Red isletas are pretty much the same. The they will grow to a similar way size but I think they are pretty hyperactive compared to the Midas or other amphs. The reds are different and that's why I like them

from what i´ve seen they all look and act like a midas/devil with a slightly different colouration. it amazes me how some of them are even considered different species to me they just look like colour morphs. but yeah I´ve seen videos and pictures of people keeping them all together, so they must have similar behaviour for that to work.

the isletas stay just a tad smaller and have a nice barred coloration with some pink and reds in the throat area. the isletas also develop very nice nuchal humps. i have a small male around 3" that has a larger hump than my 6" erd devil and hogaboomorum. personality will be a push as all amphilophus are very personable. i like the isletas more cause of the nice barred color and impressive humps.

Very nice to hear, I've heard about 10" for males which would be a better fit in the 75.

Fishman! I´m sure hes the guy I saw the pictures of recently, where he has a tank full of amph. species

I do have a group of red devils, hogaboomorum, and lyonsi in my 240 gallon and a group of 4 red isletas in a 75 gallon in hopes for a pair. So far the isletas show a very strong body form and are very personable.
