Amphilophus Citrinellus vs Amph. "Red Isletas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
with a baby on the way i have no room for it and my current 75 is home to a pair of grammodes right now

Like mentioned as far as personality they are pretty much the same. I have kept midas and now have a pair of isletas and they act almost exactly the same. The isletas form nuchal humps earlier than midas. Also female isletas form nuchal humps quicker. My female isletas already has a nuchal hump t 5" where as my female midas did not have one at that size. The red comes and goes. When my isletas are displaying the red is very intense. It is also very intense when eating.

Really interesting to hear about the red when they're eating. I sadly don't see myself having a pair, partly because I want a big male and partly because I don't want to have to divide the tank if the male gets upset with the female.

True words, does rapps normally get them in?

If your talking about the grammodes yes he does. The winter makes it a lil harder to obtain some fish. My pair is from Dan at cichlidsoftheamericas.com. They are very slow growers thi and thats a down fall for them. Takes alot to gain their trust tho as far as becoming a wet pet. If mine dont breed within the year i may rehome the smaller one and get a red isletas or use one of my la ceiba freddies as a tankmate for the other grammodes
