Amphilophus Citrinellus vs Amph. "Red Isletas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Isletas seem to be one of those fish that are trending now. I remember only like a year ago Rapps barely had them. Now he has large as well as small ones. I love mine but I am a sucker for amphs. Male is an ass and constantly bites the glass. My female is slowly beginning to bang the glass also. Here are a few pics of mine.

They have never lost their reddish pink colors. And they are currently working on their 4th spawn. If you lived closer I could help you out. I have about 500 fry around 1.5 to 2.5". Here are a couple pics of mine.

absolutely stunning fish man, stunning. I love that the female has a hump too... have you ever had to separate the pair at all during spawning?

Lo I have only had them a few weeks but I have not had problems so far. The male does chase the female but usually no more than 4ft and when he does get a little out of hand there are places she can hide that he cannot fit so i think that helps as well as the abundance of large rocks to break line of sight. it's just these two in a 125 with some silver dollars.

@Madness- how big are those isletas?

Let me know how that works out because as mine grows up I might consider a pair

Of course I went to my LFS today for the first time in almost 3 weeks, and they had in not only baby Buttikoferi, but Purple Rose Queens, a 5.5" creamsicle red devil, a 10" managuense, and an 8" Loiselli, all in gorgeous shape.

Either way, my heart is set on these guys I'm pretty sure about that

I think you made a good choice not buying any fish but its hard for me to pass on a loiselli. GOOD JOB!!!!

Okay so I was at my LFS today (amidst the snowstorm), and took a few (unseen) shots of their new big guys...

So hard to not buy the loiselli, they were both marked as $39.99, and the owner told me that because it was me that it would be a bit less, meaning probably $25...

And there was a 1" convict in their convict tank that had a nice bump on his head that I was so tempted to grab... but I know I have nowhere to put him :(
