One time at pet smart the common pleco sign said that they needed a 40 gallon tank. I told the person in the fish department that they needed 90 gallons. She said that she wrote it. I genus nobody listens to kids even if they are right. This is even worse the red belly pacu sign said that they needed a 75 gallon tank! One time someone at a different pet smart the person said that her 20 inch texes cichlid was thriving in a 55 gallon tank with 3 silver dollars!!!!!!!! there are like a Google things wrong with that set-up. Yea why did she throw the word "thriving" in there. There are a couple people in my class who like fish. They are learning.one of made HUGE mistakes though. He forgot to feed his fish for 5 days. most of his fish were pretty small so some died. I do help. They do overstock there tanks though. They are leering thogh.

It isn't you and its not fishkeeping specific, its simply that there are a lot of stupid people out there.
two more examples. my aunt put something on her hood that melted her hood i said hey ur gonna cause a fire or water is going to reach the bulbs turn it off. she pretended to listen but next day surely enough there was the light on again. my cousin is notorious for not listening. its almost like because he has had experience in fish keeping in the sense that he filled 55 with whatever and since the fish lived even miserable stunted or what have u if it lived for 2 years it meant he knew more thna i do about fish keeping. everytime i tried to tell him his stock wouldnt work it would blow up in his face. well he ended up giving up and giving me his tank. my whole family does this but this is just what they know and have been raised doing back in cuba where it was awesome to have 5 7" goldfish and 5 plecos in a 20g. they think because a fish is big and alive they are being good fishkeepers . and theres nothing a young person could know better than they can about fishkeeping.
Clearly you were wrong, I have two oscars in a 29 gallon and they are thriving. Next time get your facts straight before you give advice.
runs and hides before the lynch mobs gets wind of it.While it's true that some just don't listen, I think more often than not, it's also the one giving the advice. They talk fast and in rocket science lingo and assume that everyone is understanding what they are talking about. When I teach a noob about fish keeping, I automatically assume they are an idiot and I talk very slowly, I write it out in crayon using ABC, etc. In other words, I don't just throw them the reigns and leave them to hang themselves like so many condescending fish experts do. I make sure they get it.
What it took a few days for the wizard who taught me, I can teach someone else in 10 mins. Fish keeping is very simple, so why do some make it out to be so complicated. Keep It Simple Stupid KISS!!!
People have been trained over the years to listen to people they see as 'higher up, more knowledgeable' people. It's so amazing how unreasonable people can be. It blew my mind when Some couple came in to the shop I work at and started asking questions and while I was trying to explain things to them they kept interrupting me and saying I was wrong the WALMART GUY said this and that.. seriously I was raised with a pet store as a second home lol and your telling me I don't know anything... "Have a nice day I can't do anything for you"... thinking to myself (your too far gone)
You know, theres a lot of problems, injuries, mistakes etc etc that happen all over the world in every walk of life that just happened because people didn't wanna listen
