I know exactly what you mean. If it isn't cycling then its buying a fish that's too big for the tank they have, or buying incompatible tank mates. I usually keep to myself now unless someone genuinely wants to learn and asks me because they have seen my tanks.

I will admit to correcting petsmart/petco employees when I hear them giving bad advice to a customer while I'm there grabbing food, media, etc. I tell you what, they hate it and they do not like to admit they are wrong.
 
coming to someone house to get paid to do a waterchange for them sounds like a good racket.
 
I know what u mean i work at a pet store that sells fish and people come in and are like "I want a guppy and a platy" and i like well do u have a heater there llike no.. Then i tell them well u have get a goldfish and a betta then they say oh well I take the guppy.... Why can't people listen to what i am telling them... :nilly:

Yeah and I told my co worker that I would be willing to carry out the service for less than the other guy is charging him but he does not think I know what I'm doing so he takes none of my advice.......Poor oscar.
 
This is the problem with people everywhere, with every topic, not just fish. People like to complain. They like to think they have been wronged, they like to bi*ch, but they dont ACTUALLY want to fix the problem. They want a solution to just materialize. People will just do what they want, no matter what advice you give, no matter how right you are. So honestly, just dont bother. Next time, just say, "I dont know, sorry cant help you."
 
It all comes down to INSTANT GRATIFICATION. People don't like to wait or listen.
 
I know exactly what you are going through. I have been playing guitar for many years. I give lessons some times to people for free, they just start playing and before they even learn the names of the 6 open strings they want to play Staitway to Heaven. Like someone else said Instant gratification. I have been playing for 35 years and still struggle with Stairway LOL
